I love tulips. Yes I do. Raise your hand if you love it too.
I mean what’s not to love, it’s beautiful, it has bright colours, it’s shaped like a light bulb and they grow in one of my favourite countries in Europe.
So, it was not a surprise that I took a lot of pictures during my trip to Keukenhof last Spring. However, my post today is not on showing you pictures of tulips. Instead I’m gonna show you the quirky names they have for tulips.
There are like hundreds kinds of tulips, I really don’t know how they can come up with cute and sometimes bizarre names for each tulip. Let’s check out some.
Tulip Cuban Night looks very Cuban. Err, even though I don’t know how Cuban is supposed to look like. It has dark deep purple colour and very elegant. To me, it’s like a very beautiful woman dressed elegantly ready for a night out.
This one I captured as the name “Vivi” is the same as my ex-piano teacher. When I showed it to her, she was uber excited. She said it wasn’t the first time her name resembled a flower name.
What do you picture when someone smile? I imagine bright yellow, like this tulip.
Oh, just from its name Aphrodite, you just know that the flower would look like the one below.
Oh yes, there is a tulip called Teletubby. It reminds me of that small teletubby called Po…not that I watch Teletubbies.
I love how the sign for this tulip looks like it’s being swallowed by huge orange balloons!
Ever watched the movie Match Point starring the sexy Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers? I think this is the perfect flower representation for the movie. Yellow, small and sexy!
Elegant and brightly coloured – the flower really deserves its name.
So that was just some of the tulips I saw in Keukenhof. Which one is your favourite?
