On Top of the World

The best part of travelling to a city is to see the whole city from above. Most cities have hills you can climb and from there you can see the view of the whole city. I love looking down from above, staring at the miniscule scenery before me.

I also love being at the top as it almost feels like you’re on top of the world. I always find myself just standing or sitting at the top, admiring the beauty of a city and also sometimes I take that time to go into deep thinking about almost anything that might cross my mind.

In the recent months, I have been lucky enough to visit some cities which has amazing view from above. From Paris to Brașov, each place holds a special place in my heart, each with its own story as I stood there and contemplate my life. It is sometimes liberating to feel that way while we are at the top.

So here is a photo essay of my version of being on top of the world.

Paris – this view was taken from Arc de Triomphe. While Paris is not exactly my favourite city, but this view took my attention. I love how you can see how there are clear divisions of the streets, it looks so neatly divided making a wonderful pattern. And oh look! Eiffel Tower!

Grenoble – known as the capital of the Alps, I was there with a group of very special people during a special weekend with friends from my masters. It was so great to share such a beautiful view with some of my most precious friends.

Brașov – I think by now you already noticed that Romania holds a special place in my heart. Ever since I left the country, my love has grown more and more. It’s such a great country with gorgeous beauty. This view was taken after I took the cable ride to the top of Brașov “Hollywood” hill.

InnsbruckAustria is one of those countries that took my breath away instantly. It was also the first time that I went up to the Alps and I was so overwhelmed by the beauty that the usually chatty me was quiet for a moment, speechless.

Luzern – such a peaceful place to be in. I love how this city somehow can calm my soul with its lake and charming old city. There’s just so much gems in one place.

Turin – Turin is just such a great place. As I took a one-day visit there (which was not enough), I went up to Basilica Superga. It was quiet when I was there, not so many people around and you can see the beautiful Alps and the River Po.

Warsaw – definitely one of my favourite cities in the world. This is my absolute favourite view of the city with the river and gorgeous line of houses with the Euro football stadium in the background. Isn’t it such a perfect picture?

Which one do you like best, I can’t decide!

Do you like to see a city from above?

  8. I totally agree with you! Have you been up the Üetliberg yet? It gives you a splendid view of Zurich…

    1. Yes I have! I went up there last year during my hols in Zurich, but I will have to go up again when the sun is out 🙂

  9. One of my favorite views are from Nordkette in Innsbruck, so beautiful! We were in Turin for 3 weeks just a few weeks ago and although it was sunny almost every day there was a constant mist/fog (maybe pollution?) that made it impossible to see the snowy mountains, which was a bit of a downer.

Never saw that view from Warsaw when I was there, will def. seek it out next time!

    1. Hey Sofia! The one of Warsaw was from a tower in the centre, such a picturesque city! Love it there 🙂
Oh too bad about the fog in Turin, when I was there it was rather cloudy but from Superga I could see the mountains though not very clear.
